A lightweight hinge for the solar car topshell.
The original hinge concept was bulky and didn't fit well with the frame geometry.
Approach
Refined the geometry around strength, weight, and motion.
- Reduced material where possible.
- Improved the hinge sweep and mounting.
- Improved ease of opening.
Challenges
Keeping it stiff without adding excessive weight.
Results
A cleaner, more manufacturable final hinge concept.
